I walked away from the Xterra, surfing through a wave of people heading toward the San Diego convention center.  I was one of thousands of people who attend the Comic-Con each year.  Everyone has varying levels of interest in comics.  I dodged the spear of a Leonidas look-alike as I passed some sauntering super-heroes.  I glanced back to see that Leonidas sported an almost complete outfit with tan speedoes and helmet, full red cape and 7 foot hair.  With a full chest of curly hair, all he was missing was 300 red capes following him (ok, I guess it would be 299).

I was not there because of my deep and abiding love for comics.  However, I do enjoy a good people watch.  One of my close friends, Ray, had expressed so much enthusiasm about the different comic stories and accompanying art.  I could not help but be interested.  When I found out that people dress up as their favorite characters.  Mostly, I was fascinated by the stories, Ray’s stories. My heart was racing as we drove down Hollywood Blvd.  We had ten minutes to the showing of The Dark Knight at Arclight, which does not seat people after the movie began.  With a five-minute drive and who knows how long to park in the five-story garage, we were not sure we would make it.  Of course, we had not been rushed at JR’s fifth-story studio.  After we were buzzed in we walked through the empty lobby to a three step landing with burgandy carpet.  We stood among the pillars of what looked like an old ballroom.  The finish was cracked now, with chandeliers hanging over empty spaces. Usually, I have to spend some time on Monday recapping my weekend.  It is not that I am always busy, I just think being out of work and more flexible with my time, my mind is a bit lethargic when trying to remember.  Oh yes, now it is coming back!  Saturday was filled with a ‘shopping day’ in Carlsbad’s outlet center.  We started about 10 am and did not finish until 11pm that night.  Throw in a lunch with my g-parents at 1:30, extended time in Banana Republic, and some sushi at the end; all in all, I would say it was a successful day!  The salmon with Asahi really hit the spot. Between Pavement and Lawn

I have been writing at work the last few weeks.  In addition, I have been reading essays by Montaigne. My plan has been to deliver a paper on Montaigne to an old college professor.  The Montaigne paper stood as a landmark in making way toward writing.  I was not just writing a paper, but proving to myself ways that I have grown, discovered courage, and faced my fears. Spandex…mostly spandex!

I went for a ride on my road bike last night for the first time in about three years.  My dad pressed it on me as a birthday gift about five years ago.  I have spent the past few weeks getting it ready to hit the roads with a good friend who has been getting into the sport.  There were three of us on the ride.  Our starting point, the hilled residences of Irvine’s Turtle Rock.  I generally think it a bad thing when a hike; run; or, in this case, bike ride begins with a descent.  It leaves a looming awareness that I will have to climb this when/if I return.
